Panchkula robberies cracked,two held from Yamunanagar

The Yamunanagar Police on Saturday arrested two persons who allegedly masterminded the heist at PC Jewellers and a Sector-15 bank in Panchkula recently.

The Yamunanagar Police on Saturday arrested two persons who allegedly masterminded the heist at PC Jewellers and a Sector-15 bank in Panchkula recently.

Amit Yadav (28),a native of Rohtak,and Samir Nain (23),from Karamgarh in Jind,were arrested in connection with a murder in Yamunanagar.

During questioning,the duo reportedly revealed their involvement in the two robbery cases in Panchkula. The two claimed to be part of a bigger gang,which is reportedly involved in around a dozen robberies that took place in different parts of the state in the last few months.

“While working on some vital clues in the robbery cases,Yadav was rounded up in connection with the murder of a businessman on February 27. During the investigation of this case,Nain was arrested by the Yamunanagar Police on March 8. He is now in police remand till March 16. Today,when Yadav was arrested,he disclosed that he,along with four other accomplices,was also involved in a series of robberies that rocked the various districts of Haryana recently,” said Yamunanagar DSP Inspector Mukesh Malhotra,who headed the special investigation team looking into the robbery cases.

Yadav would be produced in court tomorrow,he added. “Yadav was the mastermind of the case. All the robberies were planned at a house in Sector 12,Panchkula,where he stayed for two months. They originally wanted to target the ICICI Bank in Manimajra. But looking at the large number of customers there everyday,they decided to target PC Jewellers,” added Malhotra.

While no stolen goods have been recovered from their possession yet,the police claimed to have seized the weapons used in the crime.

Talking to Newsline,Panchkula Superintendent of Police Amitabh Dhillon said: “It is a major breakthrough. We would bring the two men on production warrants from Yamunanagar around March 16. Our efforts will now be to arrest the other members of the gang.”

The 2 robberies
The two robberies at PC Jewellers and the Sector-15 bank that rocked Panchkula took place in broad daylight. At PC Jewellers,five armed robbers had decamped with jewellery worth lakhs of rupees in less than five minutes on January 27. They had come in a Hyundai Verna car,bearing a fake registration number. The police were left searching for ‘vital clues’ in the CCTV footage.

On February 12,robbers struck again at the Sector 15 national bank and decamped with Rs 10 lakh.

The gang of 5
* Amit Yadav (28) — (Arrested) — Originally from Rohtak and the mastermind of the robberies. Is an MBA from Swami Devi Dyal College,Barwala. Posed as the turbaned man in the PC Jewellers robbery and is also one of the two accused involved in the Sector 15 bank robbery.
* Samir Nain (23) — (Arrested) — Originally from Karamgarh in Jind district. Student of Hotel Management in Swami Devi Dyal College and was also involved in the Sector 15 bank robbery.
* Sundar alias Kala (25) — (On the run) — Resident of Sampla near Rohtak. Posed as the handcuffed man in the PC Jewelers robbery case.
* Sunil Malik — (On the run) — He is in his late twenties and originally from Gannur in Sonepat district. Posed as police constable in the PC Jewellers heist. Malik has been involved in several robbery cases in various districts of Haryana.
* Pawan Saini — (At large) — In his late twenties and originally from Rohtak. Saini has been involved in around a dozen robbery cases in the state.
