AHEAD OF the arrival of monsoon, Panchkula administration has set up flood control rooms at district and sub-division levels for residents to alert about any water-logging or flood-like situation anywhere in the district.

A Central Flood-Control Room has been set up in Mini-Secretariat, Sector 1 and people can call on 0172-2562135 and can submit the complaints. A district official official will always remain on duty in the Control Room, who will further alert the department concerned to take action. The number will be functional round the clock.

A meeting was also held by Deputy Commissioner (DC), Dr Garima Mittal to overview the arrangements. With Ghaggar river passing through the town and various residential areas located along the riverbed, the administration has urged residents to remain alert and intimate in case of overflow in the river.

Apart from a Central Control Room, the administration has also set up Control rooms tehsil and sub-divisional level. Residents of Raipur Rani can call on 01734-256628 and seek assistance from Block Development Panchayat Office, while for Barwala the helpline number is 01733-250103.

A helpline will also be functional in Police Control Room in DCP’s office on first floor, and the number is 0172- 2582100. In case of any water-logging, residents can also contact the office of Municipal Corporation (MC) at 0172-2583794.

“One needs to be adequately prepared, since the district has hilly area and rivers flowing through them. In case there is a heavy rainfall, overflowing rivers can pose danger. We have already held a meeting in this regard and assigned duties to concerned officers,” said DC Dr Garima Mittal.
