After Tuk Tuks, its Yo Yos turn to hit the roads. Adding to the existing fleet of radio autos,Tri City Auto Club will launch 10 more such autos on Thursday.
But the operator has christened these autos Yo Yo. The colour and fare of these autos will be the same as that of the TuK Tuks Rs 10 for the first kilometre and Rs 8 for every subsequent km.
But Yo Yo scores over Tuk Tuk in features it will have a unique panic button (see box).
The operator plans to increase the number of Yo Yos to 100 by adding 10 autos every month. The 31 Tuk Tuks in the city are managed by Tricity Auto.
I have decided the name Yo Yo because like Yo Yo the toy,my autos will leave a designated point and return to the same point after ferrying a passenger, Neeraj Suri, director and COO of Tri City Auto Club, said. Our service will be ideal for women who have to travel alone,in case of emergency or when one has to go somewhere at odd hours. It is a 24 hour service and we hope to get good response.
Like Tuk Tuks,Yo Yos are expected to be popular, primarily because of their low fare. These autos will be fitted with Global Positioning System (GPS) and have drinking water facility and a magazine on board. GPS will ensure that like Tuk Tuks, these autos can be called at the doorstep by just dialing a number.
The Administration aims at providing the best transport facility to people. These radio autos are a step towards that, Vandana Disodia,Secretary,State Transport Authority, said. Disodia will inaugurate the service on Thursday.
In Yo Yo,dont panic, press panic button
If a passenger feels uncomfortable for some reason,he can press the unique panic button fitted in every Yo Yo. Pressing this button will alert the monitoring station, which will immediately initiate action and coordinate with the passenger through a mike fitted in the vehicle.
