GGSD,Sector 32
It was a fun-filled day as the management,principal,staff and students of GGDSD College,Sector 32-C,celebrated Lohri on Wednesday. The programme commenced with Principal Dr A C Vaid lighting the bonfire,after which the staff and students sang the traditional Lohri songs and everyone danced to the beat of the dholak,exhibiting Punjabi zest and zeal. The usual fare of sweets and peanuts were distributed among all. Vaid also spoke on the significance of festivals.
GCG,Sector 42
Lohri for the girl child was celebrated in Government College for Girls,Sector 42. A street play,dance items and folk songs by students enthralled all those who were present. A procession for promoting the cause of women was also taken out. College Principal Mani Bedi lit the bonfire and reminded students to contribute towards changing the mindset of the society.
The British School,Sector 8,Panchkula,celebrated the festival of Lohri with great festivity. Geetika Sethi,director,said they had planned various activities for the day. It was also said that children were given a comprehension passage so that they could learn about their rich culture and heritage. Students were divided into two groups. While some made Lohri cards,others made a collage using different materials, added Sethi.
DAV Senior Secondary School
Lohri was celebrated with great enthusiasm at DAV Senior Secondary School in Sector 8,Panchkula. Students of the kindergarten section were narrated folktales related to the festival.
Hallmark Public School
Traditional folk songs and dances marked the occasion at the Hallmark Public School in Panchkula. Principal Kavita Wadhwa shared anecdotes related to Lohri with the students. Prayers were offered to the bonfire seeking abundance and prosperity. Saksham and Dhwani,two students of the school,were felicitated with the best dressed Punjabi-Punjaban Award,said the school spokesperson.
GCG,Sector 11
Lohri was celebrated with traditional fervor and gaiety by students and staff of Government College for Girls,Sector 11,Chandigarh. A huge gathering of students danced to the tunes of the latest foot-tapping numbers around the bonfire. The celebrations were arranged by the Students Council of the college. The highlights of the event were the gidda,boliyan and bhangra performances. Principal Achla Dogra and faculty members joined students in the festivities. Dogra dedicated the festival to the girl child. She motivated girls to work hard,put in their best efforts and carve a niche for themselves in todays competitive world.
