NSUI protests,seeks teachers’ appointment

The issue of recruitment of faculty members in Panjab University departments has emerged as a key concern for the authorities. Following the opposition of Panjab University Teachers’ Union (PUTA) to bulk recruitments,now one of the students’ unions is demanding immediate filling up of all the 280 posts advertised recently.

Staging a protest outside the Vice-Chancellor’s office on Tuesday,representatives of National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) demanded that the recruitment process be videotaped to ensure transparency. They submitted a memorandum to Dean Student Welfare (DSW) A S Ahluwalia,seeking immediate appointment of teachers.

Two weeks ago,in a letter to V-C R C Sobti,PUTA had requested the authorities to withhold bulk appointment of teachers.

Looking into the demands of the association,the V-C had last week constituted a committee headed by Dean University Instructions to ensure that only need-based appointments be made for now.
