The Punjab Wireless Systems (Punwire) Employees Union, fighting against its parent company since its closure in 2000 for their pending dues, now plans to hold a rally in Industrial Area,Phase VI on September 1 to protest against the delay.
Punwire was sold to a private group in August 2006 but its employees still await the final payment of their service benefits.
However, when the private company had taken charge of Punwire,Rs 50 lakh were paid to the 1,200 employees, who were paid their last salary in June 1999.
In a joint press release issued here, the union president Shahid Ahmed and cashier Jaswinder Kaur Nagra said the present situation would be discussed in detail and further action plan would be chalked out for early clearance of the pending dues at the rally.
They cautioned the employees against adverse information disseminated by certain vested interests to mislead the employees.
The claim for dues of 61 employees was cancelled and the union would take up their cases for review, they stated.
The union also decided to refer the reported loss of one of the main files of the companys court cases to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI),which is already investigating the company affairs.
