Flamme Bois rolls out a quick-bite menu that’s also easy on the pocket

Flamme Bois (pronounced Flam-wa),the bistro in Sector 35 known as much for its menu as its affable ambience,is set to make muggy afternoons a pleasant affair with the launch of their afternoon special menu. “The heat is just going to get worse so we decided to put together quick-bite meals coupled with some coolers,” mentions owner Karan Deep Singh Suri. Interestingly, the new line-up is also quite pocket-friendly. “We believe there’s a strong student population that can be tapped,so we didn’t want to offer prices that pinch,” quips the restaurateur. In keeping with the mood, the comfortable couches have board games like Jenga and Scrabble lying around, even as Abba plays softly in the background, adding to the lazy charm of the place.

The menu is a potpourri of sorts with sandwiches, wraps and rolls aplenty. “It’s a mix of Mediterranean and European cuisine,” adds Suri, who got Chef Rozzario to whip up cool bites and sips. We start with the ultra-cool Apricot Iceberg (Rs 110) that lives up to its name. A slush drink,it’s both refreshing and innovative. Teamed with a Mexican chicken wrap (Rs 165) that’s good for two. Packed with fresh greens mostly bell peppers, chicken strips and a light dressing,it makes for a pretty hearty meal.

Among the sandwiches, the Ham and cheese baguette (Rs 135) and the popular Tuna sandwich (Rs 135) are worth a shot. A must try is the frankfurter. Priced at Rs 125,it’s pretty close to the classic hot dog and offers a super-size chicken sausage packed in an equally big bun. The wraps are well portioned and our pick would be the Chicken Cuban Wrap, layered with chicken and thinly-sliced ham, crisp pickles all in a tangy mustard dressing. The wraps are priced between Rs 110 to Rs 165. Also their original wood-fired oven that dishes out thin-crust pizzas is being put to full use. “Pizzas are all-time favourites. Our new menu will roll out smaller size versions priced at Rs 125,” adds Suri.

Meal for Two:Rs 350 (including taxes)
