Nominations filed for PUTA elections

Candidates filed their nominations for the Panjab University Teachers’ Association elections,scheduled for August 10,on Thursday.

Candidates filed their nominations for the Panjab University Teachers’ Association elections,scheduled for August 10,on Thursday. While the Progressive Democratic Front (Keshav Malhotra) disclosed its nominations,the other group,Manjit-Akshay group. refused to do so.

“We have not disclosed the names and do not intend to do so. It leads to intimidation and threats to candidates. This time,we are playing safe and will disclose the names close to the elections only. This may result in delay in campaigning,but this would not affect our positions in any manner,” said Prof Akshay Kumar.

Last year,three posts of direct elections were won by this group,including Prof Manjit Singh

as PUTA president,Prof

Akshay Kumar as secretary

and Prof Mohammad Khalid as treasurer.

The nominations would be opened for scrutiny in the presence of executives on July 31.

In the fray

The Progressive Democratic Front,on the other hand,has made the names public. They are as follows:

President: Prof Jaspal Kaur Kang (Correspondence Department)

Vice-President: Prof Sanjay Kaushik (UBS Department)

General Secretary: M C Sidhu (Botany Department)

Joint Secretary: Prof C N Kumar (Physics)

Treasurer: Prof Jitendar Grover (Correspondence).

For the executive group,the nominations are as follows:

Group I: Dr Mrityunjay (Library),Dr Yograj (Warden hostel number 7),Dr Ashok Kumar (Hindi) and Dr Navleen (RRC)

Group II: Prof Anju Rao (Botany),G R Choudhary (Chemistry),Prof Sukesh Kumar (Biochemistry),Prof Navdep Goel (Physics)

Group III: Prof Rajesh Kumar (UIET),Prof Deepak Kumar (UIET),Dr Sudhir Bhandari (Dental)

Group IV: Prof Gurpal Singh (Evening studies)

Group V: Dr Ravi Mahajan (correspondence studies)
