No bidders for 3 school sites in HUDA auction

Auction for six school sites held by the Haryana Urban Development Authority at its office in Sector 6 drew an unenthusiastic response.

Auction for six school sites held by the Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA) at its office in Sector 6 drew an unenthusiastic response.

The 19 bidders, who participated in the open auction, showed more interest in primary and nursery school sites. There were no takers for three school sites.

“Two school sites are in Sector 21,one in Sector 14,and one each in sectors 19,25 and 28. Of these sites, three are for primary schools, two for nursery schools and one for high school,” HUDA Estate Officer Satbir Singh Saini said.

School sites in sectors 21,25 and 28 found successful bidders. Auction for the other three was declared ‘pending’,as they had no takers.

The primary school site in Sector 21,which has an area of 4,888 square metres, went to Mindscape International Education Society; the nursery school site in Sector 25,with an area of 519 square metres, went to the New Oxford Education Society; and the nursery school site in Sector 28,with an area of 1,110 square metres, went to BRSK International Public School.

“Successful bidders have deposited 10 per cent of the total price. They will have to deposit another 15 per cent within a month of issuance of allotment letters,” Saini said.

“Despite the ongoing economic slowdown,we have managed a reasonable increase of 30 per cent from the reserve price,” he added.

The remaining three sites will now be taken up in the next phase of auction for school sites.

Gurukul School director Sanjay Thareja said: “We tried for a primary school site, but could not get it. Most of the bidders were interested in primary and nursery school sites. There were hardly any takers for bigger sites.”

He added,“Bigger sites are not commercially viable,as a bidder would earn profit only if he charges Rs 10,000 to 12,000 as fees from a student, and the school has 500 students.”

The last auction of school sites was held in 2007 in which a high school site in Sector 12 (3.75 acres) had gone for Rs 12.90 crore, and a primary school site (1 acre) in Sector 26 for Rs 4.50 crore.
