Chandigarh: Despite being down in the first set,Nikhil made a superb comeback to annex the next two sets in succession to register a morale-boosting 2-6,6-4,6-0 win over Hirday to enter the final of the boy’s Under-18 category in the YMCA Total Tennis Championship,at YMCA Total Tennis Academy in Sector 11,on Saturday. He will face Shivain in the final who defeated Abhishek,6-3,6-2,in a lop-sided semi-final encounter. Similarly,in the boy’s u-18 final,Sumer Singh Sandhu will take on Shivam. In the semi-finals,Sumer defeated Jaishvin Singh,7-3,in a one-sided encounter while Shivam also registered an identical 7-3 win over Jagsifar in the other semi-final match. Meanwhile,Neel overcame a resilient Udayveer Singh,8-7(7-3) in an exciting semi-final encounter in the boy’s Under-12 category. Jaishvin was the other to make it to the final after beating Abhijeet,8-0,easily in the semi-final encounter.
Chess tourney on May 27 and May 28
Mohali: The Millennium School,Mohali,will organise first Millennium School Open Children Chess Carnival on its premises at Sector 67 on May 27 and 28. Competitions will be organised in the under-16 and under-12 (open and girls) categories. The last date for registering entries is May 25,and these can be submitted at the school reception between 9am to 4pm.
Airtel,Deep Engineering,Tata Motors win
Chandigarh: Riding high on Vinay Bhardwaj’s impressive knock of 86 runs off 44 balls,Airtel beat Punjab Secretariat by 49 runs in a match played during CII Corporate Cricket Cup in Chandigarh. Airtel posted a total of 202 runs for the loss of four wickets in 20 overs. Bhardwaj emerged as the star for Airtel,scoring at a brisk rate. He was ably supported by Aanchal (50) and Mohit Parashar (41). In reply,Punjab Secretariat were all out for 153 in 19.4 overs. Ajay and Manpreet grabbed three wickets each for Airtel team. In other matches,Deep Engineering defeated Serco Global Services by 38 runs while Tata Motors beat Competent Synergies comprehensively by six wickets.
Cricket tourney from June 1
Patiala: The Patiala Black Elephant Cricket Club will organise the 12th Under-14 league-cum-knockout cricket tournament from June 1 to June 5 at the BECC grounds and YPS,Patiala. Players born on or after 01 Jan,1999 and studying upto class IX can take part in the tournament. Teams from Haryana,Delhi,Chandigarh and Punjab will take part in the event.
