New in the City: Pracheen Kala Kendra to launch classical arts, painting classes in Chandigarh schools 

Chandigarh’s Pracheen Kala Kendra, in a new endeavour, tries to get students up close and personal with Indian Classical Art and Culture. The centre, which has extensively been engaged in the preservation of Indian classical arts for more than six decades now, will now start after-school classes in art forms like kathak, Hindustani music, painting, etc on several school campuses.

“It is a step forward to promote Indian classical arts among the young generation for the preservation and dissemination of our rich cultural heritage,” said Dr Shobha Koser, eminent kathak exponent and director of the Kendra. These classes, she adds, would provide students with a unique opportunity to learn from some of the best teachers in the field, develop their skills and knowledge and enrich their overall educational experience.

The classes aim to impart quality training and teachers of the Kendra will communicate to meet the needs of students of all levels of proficiency. Students who complete programmes of the centre will have the opportunity to take part in examinations that are backed by certifications and recognised by various governing bodies all over India. The certifications will be a valuable addition to their academic and professional portfolio.
