Mounting medical bills, fight with father led man to kill parents & brother at South Delhi home before suicide bid
After fleeing home, Siddharth allegedly roamed around Mehrauli and Chattarpur on his scooter
Three years after claiming it could not trace the truck driver involved in a 2022 hit-and-run that killed a Kandivali resident, the Mumbai police told the Bombay High Court Tuesday that the driver was finally found (File) Early Wednesday, Siddharth (22) first hit his parents and brother with a brick in their sleep at their Maidan Garhi home in South Delhi. He then allegedly slit their throats one by one to ensure that they were dead. Police said he had been allegedly plotting the murders for two weeks after his father scolded him for leaving the house every now and then.
After killing his father Prem Singh (50), mother Rajani (45) and elder brother Ritik (24), the man initially thought that he would spend his father’s savings and fled the house, said police.
However, at 12.39 pm the next day, he attempted suicide by jumping in front of a train at the AIIMS Metro station. But as luck would have it, the train stopped before running him over. The driver applied emergency brakes after being alerted by the control room, police added.
This led to Siddharth’s arrest from the station in a coordinated operation by the Delhi Metro Police and the Delhi Police sleuths of the south district. The police said that during questioning, Siddharth said he and his family had been suffering for the last 12 years due to the mounting medical bills. Suffering from obsessive compulsive disorder and other ailments, Siddharth claimed he had availed treatment from several hospitals, they added.
Siddharth had allegedly also told his friend about a month ago that he plans to leave his family and go to Rajasthan, said police.
Tension, however, peaked after his father scolded him. “About 15 days ago, his father scolded him due to his habit of disappearing from home. He then thought that it would be better for everyone if all of them died and were freed from their worries,” an officer said.
On Wednesday, Siddharth allegedly went to the first floor of his house, where his mother was sleeping. “He hit her on the head with a brick multiple times, until she was semi-conscious. He then went to the ground floor and did the same with his father and brother,” the officer said.
“Seeing them bleeding but still alive, he thought it would be better to end their suffering. He then slit the throats of his father and brother, before doing the same with his mother.”
After fleeing home, Siddharth allegedly roamed around Mehrauli and Chattarpur on his scooter. The accused, officers said, called his “friend” to brag that he has “dealt” with his family and is now running away. “Prima facie, it has emerged that he had disclosed to someone that he had murdered his family,” DCP (South) Ankit Chauhan had said earlier.
On Thursday, Siddharth dumped the scooter near Mehrauli Metro station, and reached AIIMS Metro station, where he planned to die by suicide. Police said his whereabouts remained unknown till about 12 pm, when he was spotted by the police at the station.
