The reputation of the city’s leading five-star hotel,Hotel Mountview in Sector 10,has come under the cloud after its staff were found renting out rooms for alleged immoral trafficking, without keeping any records. Services of two employees in the house-keeping department have been terminated and a front office executive was issued a showcause notice on Friday, for their prima facie involvement in the incident.

According to reports,a man and a woman were given a room around 12.30 on the night of September 23,but the staff did not make any entry in the register, which is mandatory as per the law. Sources said the three hotel employees apparently knew the man who had brought a “suspicious” woman with him to the hotel. The two house keeping staff members,Manish and Tarun Garg,in connivance with the front office staff member,Manmohan Singh, got the man Room no 131,said an employee of the hotel.

“When some of us raised alarm,a raid was conducted and the man and woman were found in a compromising state. They were chucked out of the hotel immediately,” disclosed another hotel staff.

The information was passed on to,D K Tiwari,Managing Director,Chandigarh Industrial and Tourism Corporation (CITCO),which runs the hotel.

He watched the CCTV footage that confirmed that no entry was made and immediately ordered termination of two house keeping employees. The front office executive,Manmohan Singh, was issued a showcause notice.

Confirming the action,Tiwari said,“On the basis of CCTV footage,we have taken action against those found prima facie guilty. Showcause notice has been given to one of them. We found that somebody opened the room on the pretext of cleaning it and gave it to the couple. Not only this,we will recover the room rent, which is around Rs 6,500,from salaries of those found guilty”.

This is not the first instance, where CITCO hotels have come under the scanner. Five persons were arrested by Chandigarh police special cell last month from Hotel Shivalikview. Lakhs of rupees was recovered from the possession of the accused, who were found indulging in gambling in one of the hotel rooms. A few of the hotel staff members were immediately suspended by the senior officers.
