The agitating teaching and non-teaching staff at Khalsa college, received a shot in the arm on Monday, when the Shiromani Akali Dal (1920) and the College’s Old Students Association, condemned the move to turn the 119 year old premier Sikh institution into a university. The party’s senior leaders,Raghubir Singh Rajasansi and Darshan Singh Isapur, while addressing the media, accused the college management of secretly conspiring to convert the college into a private varsity that will be run by one particular family. “We will not allow that to happen. It was due to the sacrifices of common Sikhs that the College had come into being and we will fight till the end to save it,” said Rajasansi.

On the other hand the Khalsa College Old Students Association also objected to the the proposed varsity and stated that “it was an attempt to grab the precious lands belonging to the college”.
