One of the most fascinating aspects of the monsoon is its relationship with the ragas. The objective of keeping the monsoon magic alive has led Chandigarh Sangeet Natak Akademi and Indian National Theatre to organise the concert titled Varsha Ritu Sangeet Sandhya on August 20. Performing on stage will be Saili Kalyanpur,a leading disciple of Ashwini Bhide Deshpande of the Jaipur Atrauli gharana, and Mumbai-based Kalyanpur, who will present Indian classical and light music. A contestant on Zee TVs SaReGaMaPa and a Marathi music competition held on Zee Marathi channel,Deshpande will sing poignant classical compositions evocative of the rains. The tunes will be based on ragas from the Malhar family, including veer rasa (majestic),karuna (yet full of pathos) and sringar (joyful).
The concert will take place at Bhartiya Vidya Bhawan,Sector-27,Chandigarh,at 6:30 pm on August 20.
