Newly Developing Sectors in Mohali: GMADA to acquire land to construct grid-pattern road
The move aims to promote planned urban development, improve connectivity and enhance residential infrastructure.

The Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA) is set to acquire land to construct horizontal and vertical roads in newly developing sectors in the city, following a grid model.
The move aims to promote planned urban development, improve connectivity and enhance residential infrastructure.
The existing sectors of Chandigarh and Mohali were developed based on a grid layout, and when Chandigarh was originally designed and Mohali was subsequently planned, the connecting roads were constructed based on the same grid pattern, officials said.
The GMADA is now focused on new sectors, such as 93 to 114, which fall within the railway line’s boundaries. Roads in these sectors will also be built following the grid layout to maintain consistency in urban planning.
According to sources with the GMADA, notices under Section 4 of the Land Acquisition Act will soon be issued. This section authorises the government or relevant authority to acquire land for public use. The land acquisition process has already been initiated to speed up development, officials said.
Through this initiative, GMADA expects that well-planned development, improved transportation infrastructure, and accelerated residential growth will be achieved in the new sectors.
