‘100 e-buses to run on 8 routes’: Mohali DC holds meeting on PM e-Bus Seva scheme

After becoming part of the PM e-Bus Seva Scheme, Mohali Deputy Commissioner Komal Mittal on Saturday held a meeting with stakeholders from various departments to finalise the route plan.

Speaking to The Indian Express, Mittal said that around 100 electric buses will be deployed across eight routes, covering distances ranging from 17 km to 32 km.

Each route will have a frequency of 15 minutes, meaning a bus will be available every 15 minutes.

The Deputy Commissioner informed that the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India, issued amendments to the PM e-Bus Seva Scheme guidelines on April 15, 2025.

Following these revised guidelines, SAS Nagar is now eligible to receive 100 electric buses under the Cluster Category.

She also shared that the Municipal Commissioner of Mohali will serve as the nodal officer for this project.

The Municipal Corporation will handle the yard facilities and maintenance work for the buses.

Additionally, a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) will be prepared in collaboration with a private company to manage the repair and maintenance of these buses.

Meanwhile, Mohali MLA Kulwant Singh said, “The plan for a city bus service in Mohali has been a long-pending dream.

I have made efforts to make this dream a reality, and I am delighted that it is finally coming true.

This service will be highly beneficial for the residents and those in need across the region.

However, Deputy Mayor Kuljit Singh Bedi said, “Since 2005, there were several discussions but the plan was shelved.

Even now, there is a fear that this new initiative might remain only on papers.”
