The Municipal Corporation of Chandigarh (MMC) has taken strict action against violators involved in improper waste disposal at Sector 37 C and EWS Flats in Dhanas and issued challans worth Rs 26,802 in separate cases, according to an MC statement.

On her way to the office, Dr Inderdeep Kaur, Medical Officer of Health, noticed waste dumped irresponsibly outside a residence in Sector 37C, and directed the area health supervisor to inspect and clear the site, according to an MC statement.

Acting promptly, the supervisor and sanitary inspector visited the spot, conducted an inquiry and issued a challan of Rs 13,401 to the violator near the 36-37 roundabout for improper waste disposal, officials said.

In a separate incident at EWS Flats in Dhanas, a discarded gas receipt was recovered from mixed household waste. Upon identifying the erring resident, the sanitation team issued another challan of Rs 13,401 for violating waste management norms.

The MCC authorities warned that strict penalties would be imposed on individuals found littering or failing to adhere to proper waste disposal practices. The authorities urged the citizens to maintain cleanliness, follow waste segregation rules and support the city’s mission toward a cleaner and healthier Chandigarh.
