Misuse of reservation by elite class mulled

The Haryana Insaf Society organised a discussion on ‘Caste-based reservation-A menace to the society’ on Sunday. Teachers, doctors,journalists and social workers participated in the discussion.

Issues discussed included shifting of reservation from a caste-based system to a system based on economic status; misuse of reservation by the elite class and politicians; eradication of caste system; and creation of a classless society.

Joginder Singh,former Advocate of the Punjab and Haryana High Court said the religious base given to reservation was inappropriate.

Dr Pyare Lal Garg from the Farid University said people from backward classes,who were on par with other sections of society,should be excluded from the reservation list.

The discussion ended with concluding remarks by journalist Gobind Thukral.
