A minor fire broke out in one of the classrooms at St Annes school,Sector 32 around 11 am on Wednesday.
The teachers claimed that the fire broke out inside one of the closets of the classroom due to a short circuit.
There was nobody inside the class when the fire started. It was recess times and the students were downstairs. One of the teachers noticed the smoke near the classroom. We have a fire extinguisher at all the floors. By the time the fire brigade arrived,our teachers had already managed to stop the fire, said Sister Gracy,the principal of St Annes.
The co-ordinator of the school,Mavi informed that the fire gutted some of the notebooks of Class IX students,stored inside the closet.
A medical assistant from Government Multi-Speciality Hospital (GMSH),Sector 16,who was called to the school by the fire brigade officials told Newsline that one of the students complained of burning sensation in the eyes due to the fire smoke.
