MC gets approval for Manimajra marriage palace

The Municipal Corporation has received approval for a marriage palace to be constructed at Manimajra.

The Municipal Corporation (MC) has received approval for a marriage palace to be constructed at Manimajra. This is the second marriage palace to be approved for the city after one was approved in Hallomajra. While the proposal for the marriage palace in Manimajra was mooted last year, the site had not been approved. The UT Architecture Department has now given approval for the marriage palace to come up at Pocket Number 11 in Manimajra.

The city has a number of community centres which are used for holding functions. However, these are not sufficient to accommodate a large gathering. People who have to hold functions generally have to go to the periphery where large marriage palaces are available.

The marriage palaces that are proposed for the city would have large rooms. These would have a capacity to accommodate around 1,000 people. Sufficient space for parking would be provided. The marriage palaces would take more than a year to materialise with the proceedings for initiating construction yet to start.

The councillors of the civic body were also divided over the use of community centres for weddings. Much debate was witnessed in the meetings of the Arts,Culture and Sports Committee when the byelaws for were being finalised.

Some councillors were of the opinion that the community centres being in the residential areas cause disturbance to the people in the surrounding areas when loud music is played. There is also a problem due to lack of adequate parking spaces near the residential areas.
