Mayor and councillors rue project delay by UT architecture department

Pali wrote to the Municipal Commissioner asking about the status of the marriage palace. He has also remarked that mere verbal communication with the Architecture Department is not enough and the status of projects should be in writing.

Pali said,“A number of projects are pending due to the architecture department not approving either the design or the site. Proposals for community parking lots are being rejected. The sites for Sehaj Safai Kendras and e-sampark centres have not been approved.”

Similar views are expressed by deputy mayor Sheela Phool Singh. She said that although she had approached the Chief Architect numerous times,a proposed park in Ambedkar Colony had not come up. She rued that other projects in the ward are also pending.

Councillor Jatinder Bhatia rued that sehaj safai kendras,underground reservoirs for water and community parking lots in his ward are not coming up due to the sites not being finalised. “The sites are repeatedly rejected and no alternates not suggested,” he said.

The councillors are of the opinion that the civic body be allowed to have its own architecture wing so that approval of plans is streamlined.
