With the election code of conduct,for forthcoming assembly elections,expected to be announced any time soon,the Punjab chief electoral officer (CEO) has begun to clamp down on any violations. Sources said that on Wednesday,the Chief electoral Officer,Kushamjit Sidhu had served a notice to Mansa deputy commissioner seeking an explanation on allegations that Bathinda MP Harsimrat Badal visited a school and urged children to ask their parents to vote in favour of the Shiromani Akali Dal.
A few days ago,Bathinda MP and wife of the deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal,Harsimrat Kaur Badal,inaugurated the Adarsh Model School at Datewas village in Mansa district which has reportedly been running for the past two years. While addressing the students there,she allegedly asked them to go home and tell their parents to vote for the Shiromani Akali Dal if they wanted grants to carry out development activities in their school. The CEOs office has now sought an explanation from the Mansa DC over this episode.
A few days ago,the Office of Chief Electoral Officer,Punjab had raised objections to the transfer of Pathankot deputy commissioner and three other officials by stating that the Punjab government should have taken its prior permission. Although these transfers have not been held in abeyance,the officers are continuing in their present stations. Pathankot DC Sibin C was transferred without prior permission from the CEO but with electoral rolls revision under way,officers connected with the process,DCs,SDMs and tehsildars cannot be transferred. The ECI had banned postings of all such officers who have been already engaged in election-related work,particularly the revision of rolls. The Pathankot DC was reportedly shifted following an incident involving the Army.
Harsimrat: Cong MPs have Swiss accounts
Ludhiana: The Congress-led UPA government is not serious about bringing back black money because Congress MPs have accounts in Swiss banks,said Bathinda MP Harsimrat Badal while speaking at a function in Dev Samaj College,Ferozepur on Thursday. Claiming that 50 per cent of the women in the country were illiterate,the MP stressed the need to strengthen the literacy programmes for women.

Chandigarh: With code of conduct coming into force in the state,the pictures of Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal on ambulances,bicycles,blue cards for the atta-dal scheme will have to be removed by the state government.
