2 days after man goes missing, his decomposed body found inside police station in Punjab’s Jalandhar
A former kabaddi player, Gurbhej Singh, was informally working at the Shahkot police station. According to his family, he left for the police station as usual on Friday but did not return home.

In an incident that has left the police in Punjab’s Jalandhar district red-faced, the decomposed body of a man was discovered inside a room at the Shahkot police station on Sunday night, more than 48 hours after he went missing.
The man had been informally working at the police station, and the officials, who claimed they were clueless about his whereabouts for two days, have now initiated an investigation to rule out any foul play.
The deceased has been identified as Gurbhej Singh, alias Bheja, a 26-year-old resident of Bajwa Kalan village.
A former kabaddi player and bodybuilder, Singh had been assisting staff at the station for the past few months by serving tea and water.
According to Singh’s family members, he left for the police station as usual on Friday but did not return home.
While the family did not officially file a missing person’s complaint, they had informed the Shahkot police that he could not be tracked.
Singh’s body was discovered late Sunday night after a foul odour prompted officials to check the room located on the terrace of the station, the police said on Tuesday.
His body was in an advanced stage of decomposition, an official said.
Police Inspector Balwinder Singh Bhullar, Station House Officer, Shahkot police station, confirmed the incident.
The room where the body was found is rarely used by officers, he told The Indian Express. “Preliminary findings suggest the possibility of a poisonous insect bite or a similar cause. Gurbhej was a talented kabaddi player and bodybuilder. The exact cause of death will be determined by the post-mortem report,” Bhullar said.
Singh’s body was sent for a post-mortem at the Government Hospital in Nakodar and later handed over to the family.
He was cremated on Monday evening.
