Jardosh for Assam
FORMER UNION Minister Darshana Jardosh has been assigned a new responsibility as the BJP’s co-incharge of the Assembly elections in Assam – slated for early next year – along with Sunil Kumar Sharma, Leader of Opposition in the Jammu & Kashmir Assembly. The election in-charge is BJP national vice president Baijayant Panda, according to a post Jardosh shared on social media of a letter of appointment signed by the party’s national general secretary Arun Singh. Jardosh, who served three terms as MP from Surat, was denied a ticket in 2024 and her successor, Mukesh Dalal, won the election uncontested. Jardosh also held important portfolios at the Centre earlier and just as she was seen as ‘sidelined’, this assignment has come along. In her social media post, she also thanked senior BJP leader J P Nadda and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
With the appointment of Bihar minister Nitin Nabin, 45, as the BJP’s national working president, the Gujarat BJP highlighted that he is the party’s “youngest” working president and claimed that it is only in the BJP where a common party worker can get a place in top leadership. In a post on social media, the Gujarat BJP compared the age of the chiefs of other parties to that of Nabin. Those party presidents whose age were compared with that of Nabin included Mallikarjun Kharge (83) of the Congress, Akhilesh Yadav (52) of Samajwadi Party, Sharad Pawar (85) of Nationalist Congress Party, Omar Abdullah (55) of National Conference, Mamata Banerjee (70) of Trinamool Congress, Mayawati (69) of Bahujan Samaj Party and M K Stalin (72) of Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam. Aam Aadmi Party supremo Arvind Kejriwal, however, was missing from the list.
