Man assaulted in police custody: SSP marks inquiry

The final decision on the inquiry report submitted by DSP Kapoor will be taken on Wednesday.

A day after ruckus was created outside the State Bank of Patiala,Sector 10,the UT Police SSP on Tuesday marked an inquiry into the incident to Deputy Superintendent of Police (Central) Ashish Kapoor. The final decision on the inquiry report submitted by DSP Kapoor will be taken on Wednesday.

On Monday afternoon,a few people allegedly assaulted a Sector-11 resident,who is in police custody. A UT constable was also arrested.

Ishaan Kataria,26,was arrested by the UT Police on Sunday,after his wife accused him of harassing her for dowry. On Monday,Kataria was being taken to the bank in Sector 10 to recover his wife Gurleen’s jewellery.

Kataria’s father and two of his friends,who were accompanying him to the bank,were also allegedly assaulted outside the bank by Kataria’s brother-in-law and his friends. Police arrested both the parties under preventive measures. All the accused were released on bail by the Sub-Divisional Magistrate.

Kataria’s family met UT SSP Naunihal Singh,following which the SSP marked an inquiry into the matter and asked for a report within half an hour.

“Acting on the orders,the DSP visited the crime scene. He spoke to a few shopkeepers there and submitted a report to the SSP,” said G S Aulakh,Kataria’s family friend. Investigating officer SI Sewak Singh said that no case had been registered yet.
