Malwa Khalsa School,Ludhiana, outplayed Shivalik Public School,Mohali,2-0 in a low scoring league match during the 8th SN Vohra Memorial Sub-Junior (Under-14) Hockey Tournament being played at Sector 42 Sports Complex on Tuesday.

Unlike other days which witnessed teams’ feasting on goals,Tuesday was a quiet day in the context that only few goals were scored. Malwa Khalsa School would have hoped for more goals but,in the end, they could manage just two. The first half hour of the match could not yield any goal and players from both the teams tried their best to find the net. However, lack of understanding between the players proved fatal for both the teams as they missed couple of sitters.

However,Harmanpreet changed it all in the 39th minute of the match when he converted a penalty corner by sending the Shivalik School custodian the wrong way to instill confidence in his team. The opposition team tried their best to come up with equaliser but the Malwa School defenders did not allow them to dominate and made some good clearings to frustrate the forwards. The frustration grew in Shivalik School camp leading which further worsened the situation for them. Malwa Khalsa team capitalised on that and Nirmal Singh scored a beautiful field goal after the breather in the 51st minute to seal the fate for Shivalik School. The Mohali team challenged Shivalik defenders in the dying minutes of the match but they were unlucky to find the net.

Malwa Khalsa team has now moved to league stage after this victory.

Meanwhile,in another match of the day,BUSH Academy,Tarn Taran, recorded an easy 3-0 win over CRZ School,Sonepat,to move into the league stage.

BUSH Academy got the lead through Lovepreet who scored a superb field goal in the 13th minute of the match. Thereafter, both the teams were involved in an interesting contest and none of the side refused to accept defeat. However,Marjit Singh swerved the challenge in BUSH Academy’s favour when he scored the second goal of the team in the 51st minute of the match. He had scored a field goal. Four minutes later,Gurpreet virtually ended CRZ’s challenge when he found the net after converting a penalty corner.
