His condition is critical, say Fortis doctors; cops say modus operandi similar to Panchkula heists
Close on the heels of armed robberies in Panchkula,a similar incident occurred in the city when the owner of Sham Fashion Mall was shot at and robbed in Sector 35,the police said on Tuesday.
The incident occurred around 10 pm when Amarjit Singh returned home (house number 217,Sector 35) in his car. Hearing the gunshots, neighbours and family members of Amarjit came out and saw the assailants speed away. An eyewitness said the two accused, who were wearing helmets, snatched a bag from Amarjit before leaving the scene. The bag reportedly contained Rs 2 lakh and keys of the mall.
Amarjits family rushed him to Fortis Hospital in Mohali where doctors attending to him said he received a gunshot injury in the right side of his stomach and that his condition was critical.
A guard usually accompanied Amarjit when he returned home at night, but he was not with him on Tuesday, the police said. The malls per-day sales figures is reported to be in the region of Rs 15 lakh.
Senior Superintendent of Police S S Srivastava investigated the crime spot along with a team. He said the incident was similar to those in Panchkula and that it appeared to be the handiwork of the same gang. The police were in the process of registering a case till the filing of this report and had sealed the borders of the city to stop the accused from escaping to Punjab or Haryana.
