Midnight accident: Ludhiana ASI’s vehicle runs over 2 PCR cops, 1 dead
The deceased Akashdeep Singh is survived by his wife and two minor kids.

An assistant sub-inspector was arrested after he allegedly ran his private vehicle over two PCR (Police Control Room) cops on night patrolling duty near Salem Tabri Chowk in Ludhiana on Sunday.
One cop got grievously injured in the accident and the other died. The deceased has been identified as Akashdeep Singh – a 2009-batch Punjab Police recruit. The injured policeman, Satnam Singh, is admitted to Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) in Ludhiana.
Sources said the accused, ASI Balwinder Singh, posted in Division Number 2 police station in Ludhiana, was under the influence of alcohol and was speeding at the time of the accident.
Ludhiana Police Commissioner Kuldeep Singh Chahal said, “We have booked Balwinder Singh under Section 304 (causing death by rash and negligent act). We have taken blood samples of Balwinder Singh to see if he was under the influence of liquor or not. As of now, we have arrested him.”
The deceased Akashdeep Singh is survived by his wife and two minor kids. Police authorities said compensation would be paid to his family as per his service record.
Notably, Section 304 under the Indian Penal Code is a bailable offence.
