The youth in the city are celebrating the festival of lights this year with some charitable work and sharing with those in need. If some are digging into their wardrobe for old clothes, others are donating candles and crackers. It is a little difficult to part with your clothes, but you feel good when you see someone using it, says Mrigya Samyal, press secretary,Sankalp,a social organisation formed by students of DAV College, that is collecting woollens, shoes, medicines and stationary from students and distributing it among orphans. It is a little gesture and can help give someone a better life, says Samyal, who collected the provisions in the college campus on October 27 and 28 and and will donate it to the orphanage Snehalya on Diwali.
Students of Rotaract Club are also doing their bit. We have given a few things to the Mother Teresa Home and will also donate to an ashram in Sector 31, says Amrit Pal,member of the club. He adds,We spend so much on celebrating Diwali and exchanging gifts,we can surely light up a few lives with small endeavours. Rohini Gupta,BA final year student of Government College for Girls,Sector 11,agrees. Says she,Most of us clean our houses before Diwali and this year we can do the same by scouting for goods that can be useful to others.
At the NGO Global Environment Concern, students are making donations to their adopted school,Smiles School,Government High School,Colony Number 4. Among others,we will donate crackers and candles, says Rahul Gupta, who hopes everybody will contribute.
