Want a minimum gap of 23 days between release of date sheet and examinations; matter resolved
Owing to the dispute over examination schedule, the classes at the Department of Laws were disrupted as the students protested against authorities flip-flop stand on the postponement and held a strike. The matter was though resolved at the end of the day with the exams being postponed, the students claimed that if the authorities again fail to release this order in the form of a signed written order, they would again go on strike.
As many as 1,200 students of six semesters – both morning and evening- were getting affected by the examination schedule which was chalked out around two weeks in advance this year. The students complained that they have not been given sufficient time for preparation. Usually, the examinations of all the six semesters with around 54 papers start in the later half of November and extend to around 22 days.
The date sheet was released on Monday. As per the university guidelines,a minimum 23 days should be given to the students after release of the examination schedule. This is negated by the authorities themselves. Also, the teachers have not completed their course. Now,when the schedule is out (on Monday) according to which the exams would start on November 9,the teachers realising the fact that few days are remaining, are rushing into completing the last unit, complained Buland Singh Sekhon,a student of first year.
For the last ten days, there has been a tussle going on between the students and the faculty over the exams being started early this year. They were being assured by the authorities that these would be postponed but when the final datesheet was out on Monday afternoon, they carried out a protest.
After meetings with the Chairperson,President of Student Council, department representative and Dean Students Welfare,it was decided that the exams would be postponed till November 15. Similarly, the examinations of UILS is said to be postponed on November 18.
It is to be noted that the university authorities are facing similar problems from science and arts departments where the examination schedule is either clashing with holidays or festivals or students complain less time given to them for preparations.
