Punjab woman killed in Manila
A woman from Jalandhar who has been living in the Philippines for the last 20 years was shot dead near Manila on Friday morning. The deceased,Neelam,was riding pillion with her domestic help on a motorcycle outside Manila when two unidentified assailants shot her. Neelams husband Devinder Kumar later informed his family in Jalandhar.
Ban on opinion poll unconstitutional
The national spokesperson of the BJP,Meenakshi Lekhi,on Saturday slammed the Congress for seeking a ban on opinion polls and added that the party was following in the footsteps of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi,who had imposed emergency. She added that the ban was not only unconstitutional but also restricted the freedom of speech. The Congress cannot suppress the Modi wave in the country,which is clear from the results of the opinion polls, she said while seaking to the media in Jalandhar.
Local Cong units to help pick candidates
Shimla: Endorsing a proposal from Rahul Gandhi to give a larger say to block and district Congress units in the selection of Lok Sabha candidates,the Himachal Congress unit today decided to get proposals from the lower party units for the 2014 elections. A meeting of the PCC executive held here set a deadline of November 30 for the DCCs and BCCs to send panels of names,or even single names,for candidates from their constituencies. Himachal Pradesh has four Lok sabha constituencies,of which,the Congress holds only one. She also thrashed UPA government on security issues.
