Namita Kohli explores Le Corbusier’s design principles in her exhibition Chandigarh & Me
Artist Namita Kohli’s exhibition Chandigarh and Me at the Chandigarh Museum Art Gallery, has on display more than 48 works, dedicated to Le Corbusier and her home town Chandigarh, which she believes is the best city to live in. Kohli, who attained an MFA degree from Shantiniketan, explores basic geometrical forms to create art. “It’s a technique that Corbusier used to follow. In that sense my work is more post-modern,” explains the artist.
A trained print-maker,Kohli says she is greatly influenced by her surroundings. So during her time at Shantiniketan she explored landscapes, and now, back in her hometown, she works at patterns and clean strokes. “I have used a number of mediums like prints, ink, stickers and others for these works. Each work is layered, almost like a dialogue, where lines form an essential part of the compositions,” says Kohli. The artist says she prefers her works to be minimalist, with negligible use of colours. “Each of my work is personal, the vision of things that I see,” she adds. These days the artist is working on a new collection which is based on poetry. “I am working on poet John Siddiqui’s works. Each of the work will have a theme, with a quote metamorphosed,” she says.
The exhibition is on till October 3.
