Families engaged in conducting pony rides in Kufri, about 15 km from Shimla, are being trained in self-employment alternatives. The business engages almost 300 horses in a area of about 2 km and has now started to put pressure on the ecology of the area.

PHD Chamber of Commerce on Tuesday began an 11-day entrepreneurship development programme where 19 youngsters from families of residents of Kufri panchayat, mainly pony owners, are being trained to set up their own enterprise.

Speaking at the workshop,Director of Tourism Arun Sharma said,“Self-employment is the only way to eradicate unemployment and there is no other field as exciting as tourism for entrepreneurs in Himachal Pradesh.”

The programme is being organised in association with German foundation Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) said an official spokesperson of PHDCCI.
