The 18-month-old child,Arnav, who was kidnapped from his house in Sector 7 on Tuesday evening was finally reunited with his parents on Wednesday afternoon. While the police and family claimed that the child was left at a barber’s shop in Sector 25 from where they rescued him, sources said the family paid a ransom of Rs 20 lakh against a demand of Rs 1 crore at an undisclosed location in Derabassi. The Panchkula police are, however, clueless about the identity of the criminals even after 24 hours of the kidnapping.

In order to keep the media at bay,the child was brought in through the rear entry even as policemen stood guard outside, barring the entry of anyone unknown to the family.

Nearly half an hour later,Sub-Inspector Khazan Singh,Additional Station House Officer,Chandimandir Police Station, came out and addressed the media. Singh claimed that it were the police who rescued the child from a barber’s shop,Rose Hair Dresser,in Sector 25. Singh said the shopowner called up the police control room to inform that someone had left the kidnapped child there. “As soon as we got the call,we reached the spot and rescued the child. When we questioned the barber,he said that some man left the child there and fled on a motorcycle. We cannot spare any more information as the matter is being investigated,” Singh said.

Arnav’s grandfather,M L Bansal, later told the media that no ransom was paid for the child’s return.
