In CBI custody for three days,Punjab Chief Parliamentary Secretary Raj Khurana submitted his resignation to Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal on Sunday. It has been forwarded to Punjab Governor Shivraj Patil for acceptance with immediate effect. A spokesperson of the Chief Ministers Office said Khurana has stated in the resignation letter: On the complaint of certain persons a false and frivolous case has been registered by the CBI Chandigarh against me. Although I am not involved in any illegal activity,I submit my resignation as Chief Parliamentary Secretary on moral grounds. I have full faith in our judicial system which shall impart justice. Khurana was arrested by the CBI on May 5 along with his alleged conduit Devinder Singh,a Punjab government employee. Devinder was caught red-handed with cheques for Rs 1.35 crore and Rs 15 lakh in cash was recovered from his care following an alleged land deal that took place in Khuranas official residence. The CBI had laid the trap following a complaint from one Manpreet Singh,general secretary of an automobile association in Chandigarh from whom Devinder had allegedly demanded Rs 1.5 crore for settling a complaint against him.
