The Next Step

The BJP on Monday pulled out all stops to welcome its new national working president Nitin Nabin at the party headquarters in the Capital. Now, everyone is waiting for an official announcement related to a meeting of the party’s national executive where Nabin’s name would eventually need to be ratified after being proposed by some of the party’s most senior leaders, including PM Narendra Modi. The BJP’s national executive is likely to convene following PM Modi’s return from his three-nation visit.

Chasing the Chief

BJP MLAs and office-bearers in eastern UP spent the weekend running from one venue to another to get a chance to meet Union MoS for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary, who has been appointed the party’s UP president. On Saturday, they reached the Lucknow office before Chaudhary’s arrival to file his nomination, but could not meet the minister. They then assembled at the entrance of a guesthouse in Lucknow Sunday evening, but were unsuccessful yet again. As Chaudhary flew to Delhi to attend Parliament Monday, some workers boarded Delhi-bound trains while others travelled by road and reached the Capital in the morning to greet their new state president.

Ghalib Lessons

UNION LAW Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal gave some stinging advice to the Congress while quoting Mirza Ghalib in the Rajya Sabha on Monday. “A person went to Ghalib and said he works hard but is not successful. Ghalib told him — ‘Umr bhar iss bhool mein jeete rahe Ghalib, dhool chehre pe thi aur hum aayina pochthe rahe’,” he said, adding that “they (Congress) are working hard, but not in the right place”. Meghwal said if “neta, niti and niyat” are correct, people do respond. It wasn’t the first time he was reciting the couplet while replying to the Congress’s vote chori allegations. He had quoted the same couplet in the Lok Sabha last week.
