Nearly two months after the beginning of the current fiscal year,Kharar Municipal Council (MC) on Thursday approved a budget with income provisions of Rs 22 crore. MC Executive Officer V K Gupta told Newsline that a special meeting, chaired by civic body president Sukhwant Singh, unanimously resolved to approve the annual budget for 2009-10.
While the civic body proposed to spend 77 per cent of the total budgetary provisions amounting to Rs 17 crore on development works,18 per cent and 5 per cent of it have been earmarked for establishment and contingency expenditure respectively.
Opposing the proposed income of Rs 90 lakh from house tax,the House reduced this amount to Rs 80 lakh, but added Rs 10 crore from the sale of municipal land.
Initially,Gupta tabled a budget with total income provisions of Rs 12.12 crore, which was later revised to Rs 22 crore.
Gupta said the House resolved to sell municipal lands in Santemajra and Jhanjeri village through an open auction.
Present market value of both the lands is not less than Rs 50 crore, but only the minimum estimated revenue of Rs 10 crore was added in the budget, he added.
Although annual budgets are required to be approved and sent for the final nod of the state government before the start of every new fiscal year,it could not be done this year.
The House also failed to approve it in earlier three sittings on March 4,April 28 and May 8 due to elections and lack of quorum.
