Khalsa College in Patiala opens counselling centre

To bridge the gap between what is taught and what actually requires to be taught,the Khalsa College management has set up the Ganda Singh Career Guidance,Counselling and Placement Centre,which began operations on Monday.

Inaugurating the centre,Gurmohan Singh Walia,Director Education,Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee,said he was happy that the college has received a grant for Rs 15 lakh for holding classes for students belonging to the SC/ST,minority and underprivileged categories,Rs 15 lakh for providing coaching for the civil services and Rs 7 lakh for the establishment of the placement centre.

Walia further said the college was going to introduce more innovative and job-oriented courses in finance,commerce,tourism and journalism. The centre will counsel students and advice them regarding various career options. An aptitude test will decide the most suitable career for applicants.

Walia highlighted the SGPCs efforts by tying up with the Cambridge University to facilitate world-class higher education for students.

Efforts are on to collaborate with the London School of Economics and other globally renowned institutions, he said.

College principal Dharminder Singh Ubha said that the centre will hold classes for IAS/PCS/All India Banking Exams/PMT/CET/UGC-NET/remedial classes/career consultancy/placement consultancy/personality development and many more classes for entrance tests. These services will be available to SC/ST/minorities including Sikhs,Muslims and others and also to poor and meritorious students at a nominal fee.

To make students professionally equipped,the centre will focus on interview skills,communication skills,soft skills,personality development and confidence building measures.
