Kang,Chadha tied at third place on Day One

The Punjab duo of HS Kang and Abhijit Chadha were tied for the third place with Delhi 'B' team comprising of Karan Vasudeva and Pawan Kumar at five-over 149 in the team event of the LG West Bengal Inter-State Championship which teed off at the par-72 Royal Calcutta Golf Club.

The Delhi ‘A’ team represented by young Rashid Khan and experienced Gagan Verma took the lead with a total of one-under 143. The 18-year-old Rashid shot a one-under par 71 to take the lead in the individual standings along with Moin Malak and Siddharth Semwal while Gagan was placed fourth after a round of level par 72,along with Rahul Bajaj and Saurabh Bahuguna. Jasjeet Singh and Rahul Bajaj carded rounds of 73 and 72 respectively to help Uttar Pradesh ‘A’ take the second place with a total of one-over 14.

Played for the first time on the LG Indian Amateur Tour,each team comprises of two players and the team with the lowest combined aggregate over four days,will be crowned champions.

But the race was much closer in the individual category with as many as nine players within two shots of the lead.

Young Siddharth Semwal sprung a surprise while Pune’s Moin Malak returned to the venue of his only win on the LG Amateur Tour,to climb to the top of the leaderboard alongside Rashid Khan.

For Rashid Khan,however,it was business as usual as he set out in right earnest for his fifth title this season,after having scalped his fourth at the LG Western India Amateur last month in Pune.

“I am just happy to have gotten off to a good start and I will just try to improve over the next three days. Leading the team event is also an extra incentive and hopefully I can help the Delhi team win,” he said while commenting on his start.
