Inter-state gang of car thieves busted

With the arrest of a man,the district police claimed to have busted an inter-state gang of luxury car thieves and recovered a stolen Hyundai Verna car from his possession.

The kingpin and another member of the gang have been identified and at least four more stolen luxury cars are in their possession,Mohali Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said at a press conference on Thursday.

He said the arrested gangster has been identified as Gursewak Singh alias Laddi and he has confessed during preliminary police interrogation that he,along with gang kingpin Kuldeep Singh alias KD and member Rajwinder Singh alias Kala,used to steal luxury cars from different parts of northern states and resell them after preparing their fake registration numbers. All gang members hail from Uttarakhand,

Laddi told us that Kala used to prepare fake registration documents while KD used to keep stolen cars in his possession till they were sold off, the SSP said.

The thief was arrested following a tip-off at a special checkpost laid down by the Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) branch of the district police at Khanpur T-point in Kharar late on Wednesday evening when he was driving the stolen car from Ludhiana to Chandigarh. The police have launched a manhunt to nab other members of the gang.
