CHANDIGARH: Indias first tablet-based classroom management platform was launched at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan in Sector 33 on Thursday. The pilot project,initiated by Gurgaon-based The Curriculum Company (TCC),kicked off with 40 tablets distributed among students of Class III.
CEO of TCC,Ujjwal Singh said,The introduction of these tablets will reduce the weight of school bags by 3.5 kg. Students will not only benefit from the portability and flexibility this device offers,but also from aspects such as real-time and speedy updation of content and assessments.
The thinktab would give the teachers flexibility to use content in any format,be it a video,a powerpoint presentation,a word document or an audio file, Singh added.
Meanwhile,principal of Bhartiya Vidya Bhavan,Taruna Vashisht,said,I hope the tablet learning programme will not only help students,but the teachers and the parents as well.
Reject all MBBS applications received after June 24: HC
CHANDIGARH: The Punjab and Haryana HC Thursday quashed the notification issued by GMCH -32 for last date of submission of applications forms for MBBS course. The court directed the Chandigarh Administration and medical college authorities to reject all applications that were received after the last date which was June 24.
As many as 13 applications have to be rejected now. Admissions now are to be made on the basis of the earlier merit list. As per the brochure issued by the GMCH,the last date to receive application forms was June 24. Allowing the petition filed by Arpit Agrawal,HC also quashed admission notice dated August 1.
The controversy came up on account of the administrations action to invite fresh applications for 50 seats. These are additional seats available due to enhancement in intake capacity,permitted by the Medical Council of India as a one-time measure for the academic session 2013-2014,throughout the country.
Aadhaar camp for mentally challenged
CHANDIGARH: As many as 15 mentally challenged persons were enrolled on the first day of a special Aadhaar camp organised by the Union Bank in association with Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) and Samarth,a day care centre for differently-abled persons.
Earlier,when we went to get my mentally challenged son enrolled at a camp,we faced a lot of problems with the overwhelming crowd. We couldnt even convince the agency to get him enrolled, said Poonam Ghai,president,Samarth,adding,such initiatives will save other disabled people from such trouble.
It became impossible to get him to look into the iris scanning machine. When he got too hyper we had to give up plans of getting him an Aadhaar said Raj Minglani mother of 28-year-old Diwakar. However,her child finally got his Aadhaar receipt on Thursday.
Keshni Anand Arora,deputy director general,UIDAI,Chandigarh said,they would keep assisting groups and NGOs that come forward for enrollment of the disabled and aged population. Our priroity is to include the left out sections of the society, she said.
Man sent on probation for injuring constable
CHANDIGARH: Additional District & Sessions Judge Shalini Singh Nagpal,while acquitting Punardeep Singh,accused of hurting a police officer under Sections 307 and 279 of the IPC held him guilty under Section 332. Punardeep has now been sent on one year probation. The incident took place on September 17,2012 when Punardeep,currently a mechanical engineering student,injured head constable Gulab Singh who tried to stop him in the Industrial Area. Gulab Singh was posted at a traffic line in Sector 29,and was issuing challans to vehicles wrongly parking outside a mall. When the constable asked Punardeep to show his licence,he replied he did not have one and said the registration certificate was in the car. Punardeep went inside the car of on the pretext of taking out the RC but started the car. Apprehending that he would flee,Singh had asked him to stop. However,he paid no heed and drove the vehicle,injuring Singh.
