Peak summer is a few months away,but designer Minnie Sondhi is already preparing for the sultry heat. She is ushering in a change in season with a specially-themed exhibition at Bling her multi-designer store in Manimajra. We are calling it a spring-summer fiesta, says Sondhi who owns the store with sister Ashita. The duo has roped in 15 designers from across India for the exhibition. People in Chandigarh love designer apparel but theres a dearth of designer labels here. We hope to bridge the gap, says Sondhi.

The line-up includes collections by Mumbai-based designers Jessie S,Janki Patel,Shrithi Pratap,Maneka Harisinghani along with Chandigarhs Minnie Bains and a jewellery line by Divya. Its only recently that I have explored the Chandigarh market and I am happy with the results, says Jessie a.k.a Jasleen Sandhu,whose spring-summer line is dominated by breezy fabrics like silk-chiffon,satin,georgette and lace trimmings.

The range includes printed tunics in floral patterns,cheery summer dresses,pants and kaftans in happy colours like turquoise and salmon pink. This season my focus is on femininity,so I have soft,fluid silhouettes and have used bright colours, adds Jessie.

Janki Patels label Svenska and Shriti Prataps line boasts of an assortment of dresses in lycra and cotton,along with satin tunics in bright hues. Chandigarh-based Minnie Bains,who specialises in fine applique work,has added an ethic Indian touch to her designs and has used floral patterns. She has extensively worked with breathe-easy fabrics such as glazed net and voile.

Mumbai-based Maneka Harisinghani,on the other hand,is showcasing her line of elegant suits and sarees in pastel colours embellished with heavy dabka,gota and bead work. Delhi-based label Bodhi Trees lehriya saris and gota-patti suits from Jaipur also find place in the exhibition. We also have a tarot card reader Renu Thakur,along with astrologer Sumati Sondhi at the venue, says Sondhi,pointing out that the collection is priced Rs 3,000 upwards.
