Sharma to officiate in Champions Trophy
Satinder Sharma,International Grade -I Hockey umpire,an officer in the State Bank of India (University Branch),has been appointed by the FIH as an umpire at the Champions Trophy scheduled to be held in Monchengladbach (Germany) from July 31 to August 8. Sharma is the only Indian Hockey Umpire,who enjoys the rare distinction of holding the Golden Whistle for having officiated at more than hundred International matches. He has been in the elite panel of FIH for almost a decade now in view of his consistent fine performance at the highest level. Satinder Sharma is required to be present at Monchenglatlbach on July 28 and will be leaving for the venue of the tournament on July 27.

Court issues notices to HI and COA
Justice Surya Kant of the Punjab and Haryana High Court has issued notices to the Hockey India and Chandigarh Olympic Association,Sector 4 Panchkula over a petition jointly filed by Chander Shekhar,President and Y P Vohra,General Secretary,Hockey Chandigarh. The petitioners have sought quashing of a letter dated January 18 of this year issued by Chandigarh Olympic Association regarding the recognition status of Hockey Chandigarh.

Cricket trials on July 25
The Cricket Association of Chandigarh will hold trials for the Indo-Nepal T-20 Cricket Championship at DC Model School,Sector 7 at 3 pm on July 25. Interested players can contact Hemant Kumar at 7814494489 or Varinder Kumar at 9988887475.

Cricket match postponed
The match between the Indian lawyers’ cricket and their Pakistani counterparts was cancelled as the visiting team did not reach Chandigarh due to visa problems. According to Sandeep Moudgill,one of the organisers,the match will be played once the Pakistani team reach Chandigarh and all the arrangements for the match are ready.

St Soldier School register win
St Soldier School,Sector 28 scored an emphatic 4-0 win over Government Model Senior Secondary School,Sector 22 in a match of the Pre-Subroto Football Tournament played on Friday. Sumit was the star of the day for the winning team as he scored three goals while Sunhkarman scored one goal. In another match of the day,Shishu Niketan School,Sector 43 scored a 4-0 win over Ashiyana Public School,Sector 46. Sahil scored two goals for the winning team while Navjot and Abhishek scored one goal each.

Athletics tourney from today
Chandigarh Athletics Association is going to conduct the Chandigarh State Athletic Meet on July 24 and 25 at Sports Complex,Sector 46,Chandigarh.Competitions will be held in variuos categories like sub-junior boys and girls,junior boys and girls U-16,U-18,U-20 (boys and girls) and men and women. The events will get underway from at 8.00 a.m.
