Girls outshine boys in Class X
Thirteen girls have made it to the top ten list in the Class X examination,results of which were declared on Friday by the Himachal Pradesh Board of School Education.

Rishika Grace of Sarkaghat (Mandi) Public Senior Secondary School topped the merit list with 674 marks of 700. Sunidhi Sharma of Government Senior Secondary School,Bharwain (Una),scored 673 and Neha Kumari of the same school scored 672.

Of the 1,34,025 students appeared in the examination 83,741 passed and 24,123 secured compartment. The overall pass percentage was 63.41.

The other top ten scorers include Naincy Singh of Mandi (667),Salil of Bilaspur (665),Aastha Thakur of Bilaspur (665),Sakshi Sharma of Hamirpur (664). Gitesh Gupta of Hamirpur,Vishakha Dhatwalaia of Hamirpur,Yamini Thakur of Hamirpur and Swati Sharma of Hamirpur scored 661 each. Sudhi Kaushal of Kangra got 660,Shivani Thakur of Hamirpur (659),Kanika Sharma of Mandi and Anuradha of Hamirpur scored 658,said an official spokesperson of the Board.

Basketball tournament
The All India Major Jagpal Memorial Junior Basketball Tournament took off at Pinegrove School in Solan on May 7. In the opening match between Vivek High School,Chandigarh and Pinegrove,the host team won by 38-13.

Jai Verma,of the winning team contributed 14 points. In other matches played on Thursday and Friday,Lawrence School,Sanawar,defeated YPS Mohali,by 27-20 points while Vivek High defeated St. Mary’s Convent,Kasauli,by 29-10 points.

In another match Pinegrove defeated YPS,Patiala,by 38-03.

In the girl’s team,Sri Ram School defeated Lawrence School,Sanawar,37-36,Welham Girls’ routed YPS,Mohali,22-11,PPS Nabha defeated VDJS,Hisar,28-04 and Pinegrove School defeated St. Mary’s Convent,Kasauli,20-14. Station Commander Air Force Station,Kasauli,Captain Devesh Vatsa presided over the opening ceremony,said an official spokesperson of the school.

Thind interrogated in DA case
Controversial IPS officer B S Thind,who retired recently,was interrogated by the CBI in a disproportioned assets on Friday. Thind,an Additional Director General of Police (ADGP),was under suspension when he retired from the service in March. The CBI officials said Thind was questioned on charges relating to dispropotionate assets after he was summoned to verify the allegations against him.

A CBI official confirmed that Thind came to the CBI office today. He apparently denied the charges and offered to provide proofs about his assets. The CBI has given him time to submit the proofs. He has been facing series of cases relating to cheating,forgery,corruption and also disproportionate assets. Thind has filed a case in the Centre Administrative Tribunal (CAT) for denial of promotions,besides having also filed three separate cases in the Lokayukta against the CM,DGP D S Manhas and Director,CBI,Ashwani Kumar,formerly Himachal DGP.
