PCA’s bowlers academy to start from today
The executive committee of Punjab Cricket Association met under the chairmanship of IS Bindra,president,PCA, at Dhruv Pandove Conference Hall on Thursday. In the meeting,MP Pandove,secretary,PCA, reviewed the regional coaching centre scheme being run in 14 districts in the state and informed that as per BCCI guidelines,only qualified coaches have to be appointed at these centers. Pandove also informed that BCCI’s fast bowler’s academy will start at PCA Stadium,Mohali from May 1. The first camp will have five bowlers and Karsan Ghavri and Yoginder Puri will be the bowling coaches. Hatuinder Sekhon will be the assistant manager for the camp. Pandove also informed that there will be a 20-25 % hike in the salaries of PCA staff members.
Bakshi appointed Match Commissioner
Rakesh Bakshi,general secretary,Chandigarh Football Association,has been appointed match commissioner for five I-League matches to be played in Goa from May 2 to 7.
Chandigarh pugilists shine
Chandigarh boxers returned with a rich haul of one silver and three bronze medals from the Federation Cup Senior Men Boxing Championship held at Jangaon (Andhra Pradesh) from April 24 to April 28. The captain of the Chandigarh team,Karamveer Singh,claimed the silver medal in the 60 Kg category while Inderjeet Singh,Gagan Preet Sharma and Vinod fetched bronze medal each in 64 Kg,75 Kg and +91 Kg category,respectively in the championship. Karamveer Singh was also declared the best loser of the championship.
Tennis tourney from today
Chandigarh Lawn Tennis Association (CLTA) will conduct AITA Talent Series Tennis Tournament for Under-16 and Under-12 age categories for boys and girls at the CLTA Complex in Sector 10,Chandigarh. As many as 90 players have signed-in for qualifying event. There will be qualifying event for boys under-16 and under-12. There are less entries in the girls event. All the girls who have signed-in will appear in main draw. The qualifying matches will be played at CLTA Complex and Lake Sports Complex from May 1 and the matches shall start from 8 am.
The players awarded Wild Card into the main draw are:
Boys’ U-12: Anmol Rattan Kamboj,Karandeep Singh,Paramveer Bajwa and Siddharth Basnet; Boys U-16: Dhruv Puniani,Adhhayan,Srijan Uppal,Pranav Suri.
Air Force hockey championship from May 3
Air Force Hockey Championship will be organised by 3 BRD AF from May 3 to May 9 at the Sector 42 Hockey stadium. A total of seven Command teams are participating in the event,which is divided into two pools. Western Air Command,Eastern Air Command and Maintenance Command are in Pool A,while South Western Air Command,Training Command,Central Air Command and Air Head Quarters are in Pool B. The opening match will be played between Maintenance Command and Eastern Air Command. Matches will be played on league cum knock out basis. The aim of the championship is to select Air Force hockey team for forthcoming Inter-Service Hockey Championship.
Tarundeep claims title
Holding on to the lead,Tarundeep Chadha of Chandigarh claimed the title in category A for 16 to 18 years in Toyota Etios Tour Haryana Open played at Gurgaon on Friday despite a strong challenge from city-mate Raghav Bhandari,who fired a 1 under 71. Tarundeep’s 73 was decorated with one birdie each on the front and back nine. I am really happy to win the first leg of the Toyota Etios Tour. This win will really boost my confidence for the upcoming tournaments.” said Tarundeep. Meanwhile,Piyush Sangwan won title in category C for 12 to 14 years in dazzling style after shooting a stylish 5 Under 67. In Category B,(for 14 to 16 yrs) overnight leader and crowd favourite Honey Baisoya of Delhi won after hitting a 5 over 77. Similarly,in Category D (for 10 to 12 yrs),overnight leader Kshitij Kaul of Delhi won the tournament in the respective category after returning with a score of 87. “It’s a great to win at Golden Greens. I hope I can maintain my form in the other tournaments as well.” said Kshitij. Amongst the girls,Vani Kapoor continued her dominance on the tour. She won easily after returning with a card of 81. “I am really happy to win this tournament. This victory has given me plenty of confidence for the tour ahead.” said Vani.
