Mohali family booked for forcibly aborting foetus
A Mohali family has been booked under Sections 406,498-A and 313 of the IPC for allegedly forcibly aborting a 3-month-old foetus. Som Nath,his father Ram Singh,mother Bholi and their accomplice Balbir Kaur are ,however,yet to be arrested. Rupinder Kaur (21) of Sahoran village in Mohali got married to Som Nath of Khanna near Ludhiana on December 25,2009,Investigation Officer (IO) Harbhajan Singh said. Nath already has three children from his previous marriage. When I told him that I was pregnant,he said that he did not want any more children and hence I should go for an abortion. But when I resisted,he along with his parents forcibly gave me some pills,following which my foetus was aborted, Rupinder told the police.
Staff can now avail e-payment facility
Under the new scheme introduced by the Employees Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO),people can now avail the facility of e-payment by providing their bank account details in their claim forms. The EPFO has also worked out modalities to launch e-payments that will enable employees to get EPF credited to their accounts within one to two days of claim authorisation. It is also mandatory to submit an attested copy of the first page of their bank passbooks to avoid any inconvenience and unnecessary delay. The EPFO has implemented the Core Banking Solutions (CBS) and National Electronic Fund Transfer (NEFT) with the help of 95 banks with over 67,000 branches all over India. Three held with stolen car,bike
The local police have arrested three persons and claimed to have recovered a stolen car and a motorcycle from their possession. Manoj Kumar Thakur and his brother Naresh of Muradabad in Uttar Pradesh were held near PSEB chowk in Phase XI on a tip-off when they looking for a customer to sell a Maruti car,which they had allegedly stolen from Mohali recently. Similarly,Harcharan Singh of Shivalik Vihar,Nayagaon,was arrested with a motorcycle stolen from Chandigarh.
The trio have been booked in separate cases of theft.
Delhi family booked for dowry harassment
Four members of a Delhi family were booked on charges of harassment and demanding dowry from a Mohali woman Roopkiran Sandhu,the police said on Friday. Roopkiran told the police that ever since her marriage,she was harassed for bringing less dowry and recently her husband and in-laws allegedly demanded Rs 15 lakh. On her complaint,her husband Bhupinder Singh Sandhu and his family members Jagtar Singh Sandhu,Kulwinder Kaur Virk and Pushpinder Singh Virk were booked under Section 498-A of the IPC. However,no arrest was made yet.
Talk for senior citizens held
Fortis Hospital conducted a health talk on common neurological problems in the elderly for senior citizens of the tricity on Friday. Dr Harpreet Singh Mann highlighted the warning signs of stroke such as sudden numbness or weakness of the face,arm or leg,sudden confusion,trouble in speaking or understanding,sudden trouble seeing in one or both eyes or even trouble in walking,dizziness or loss of balance or coordination. Dementia is not a specific disease, explained Dr Mann. It is a descriptive term for a collection of symptoms that can be caused by a number of disorders that affect the brain. While memory loss is a common symptom of dementia,memory loss by itself does not mean that a person has dementia. Parkinsons disease (PD) is a degenerative disorder of the central nervous system that often impairs the patients motor skills,speech,and other functions.
DM prohibits protests in Mohali
District Magistrate Prabhjot Singh Mand has promulgated prohibitory orders to curb frequent demonstrations and protests in Mohali. In an order issued under Section 144 of the CrPC,the DM has restricted the assembly of five or more persons within 100-metre radius of Gurdwara Amb Sahib in Phase VIII to Punjab School Education Board headquarters,Vikas Bhawan,PUDA Bhawan,Fortis Hospital and Punjab Police Complex in Sector 62 here. The order,which came into force with immediate effect,would remain in force till June 28. The armed and police forces besides officials on government duty were exempted from the ban,which was imposed on the recommendation of Director,Rural Development and Panchayats,Punjab,who had requested the DM to take precautionary measures to avoid demonstrations outside its office in Vikas Bhawan on a daily basis.
Govt school gets new building
A new building of Government Primary School in Phase I here was inaugurated on Friday. District Planning Committee Chairman N K Sharma dedicated the new block to the students and staff of the school. The government pitched in with a grant of Rs 6 lakh.
Mohali all set for Census
Census operations are all set to begin in Mohali district from May 1,Deputy Commissioner Prabhjot Singh Mand said. He said 1,902 enumerators and 321 supervisors were deputed for the 45-day long national exercise to continue till June 15. While the DC would himself keep tab on the Census operations in the district,the SDMs concerned were appointed sub-divisional Census officers for their respective areas.
PU students submit memorandum to V-C
Panjab University Campus Students Council president,along with SOPU Campus president,Harsh Vardhan Singh Jhinjha submitted three memorandums to the vice-chancellor on Friday. It was stated that classes would not be allowed to be held if issues of deposition of fee in instalments for all self-financed courses,upgrade of library infrastructure,immediate repair of furniture and lighting system and appointment of permanent faculty in newly-launched self-financed courses were not addressed. Authorities,meanwhile,assured the student council members to take action.
