Two women die in separate incidents
Two women died in separate incidents in Zirakpur on Monday,the police said. A widow Seema Bassi,in her early 30s,allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan at her parents house in Harmilap Nagar at Baltana. She took the extreme step when she was alone at house around 11 am,the police said,while informing that a suicide note left behind by the deceased said nobody should be held responsible for her death. Seemas father Vidya Dhar Kaushal told the police that she got married to one Chetan Bassi of Ludhiana four years ago and after her husband died in February,she was under depression. She is survived by a one-and-a-half-year-old son. In another incident,an unidentified woman,in her mid-30s,was crushed to death under a train near Zirakpur. She couldnt be identified. The police have initiated inquest proceedings in both cases.
Health camp ends at Ambala
A three-day nature cure camp organised by the Ambala Cantonment Sanatan Dharam Nature Cure Hospital concluded at Ghel Kalan,5 kms from here,on Monday. Superintendent of Police Bharati Arora,who was the chief guest,exhorted people especially from the rural areas to adopt nature cure treatment because it was not only effective but cheaper too.
62 cases disposed of at Lok Adalat
Of the total 90 pending court cases,62 were disposed of at a Lok Adalat held at Khojkipur village. Chaired by Additional Sessions Judge A S Narang,the disposed cases included mutations which were executed on the spot.
Two-day symposium on autism gets under way
A two-day international symposium on Early Identification of Autism: A Model for Improvement was organized by the Regional Institute for Mentally Handicapped in association with the Indian Association of Pediatrics,Chandigarh Chapter at the Conference Hall of GMCH,Sector 32,Chandigarh on Monday.
The event was attended by over 50 doctors and paramedical professionals. Dr Jane VcGrath from New Mexico university,USA,stressed the need for a quality health care service and early intervention services using scientific guidelines into practice in order to achieve the goal which is that all children with autism must reach school on time without delay.
Computer lab opens at Aryans Group of Colleges
Wing Commander V S Bejoy,director,All India Management Association (AIMA),New Delhi,inaugurated a new computer laboratory at Aryans Group of Colleges on Monday. The new facility has around 70 latest computer systems,Wi-Fi technology and user-friendly software. In his address,Bejoy said technology was fast changing and had to be upgraded regularly. Aryans Group of Colleges promoter Anshu Kataria highlighted the functioning of the institutions before proposing the vote of thanks.
Suspended IAS officer files complaint
A suspended IAS officer,Vijay Kumar Janjua,who had been arrested while allegedly accepting bribe and was presently out on bail,has filed a criminal complaint against T R Mishra of Ludhiana,who was the complainant in a bribery case against him.
In a statement issued here on Monday,Janjua said the complaint was filed under Section 211 of IPC for making false charge of offence with intent to injure and Section 500 of IPC for defamation before the court of Judicial Magistrate in Mohali.
He made false allegations to the police that I had threatened him. Making of false charge of offence with the intention of causing injury in body,mind or reputation without any lawful ground is punishable under Section 211 of IPC. This false allegation of threat was published in some newspapers,which injured my reputation and defamed me in the eyes of the public,my relations and colleagues, Janjua accused Mishra in his complaint.
HJC workers granted bail
The court of District and Sessions Judge Keval Krishan Garg granted bailed to the workers of Haryana Janhit Congress (HJC),who were booked for rioting and other charges including damage to public property,in a decision here on Monday.
The UT police had caught 21 persons following the clash between the police and the HJC workers on March 5,when the supporters of the party attempted to cross the police barricades near the rally ground. The event had turned violent soon after the party workers began the march to the Haryana Assembly from the rally ground in Sector 25 and faced police barricades. The angry workers had entered into a clash involving stone pelting on the police personnel who tried to stop the workers from marching ahead. Kuldeep Bishnoi was injured in the clash besides some 30-odd party workers. As many as 34 cops were also injured in the incident.
