6-year-old girl falls to death
MOHALI:
A six-year-old girl,Soni,fell to death from the rooftop of her house in Kumbra village,adjoining Sector 68 on Tuesday evening. The girl was rushed to Civil Hospital,where she was declared ‘dead on arrival’. The victim’s father,Dinesh Kumar,a migrant labourer,was away to work when the incident took place. According to information,Soni was playing with some of her friends on the roof and in the meantime,the children started quarreling over some petty issue,following which Soni came tumbling down from the rooftop. The police have registered a case.

Youth found murdered
AMBALA:
The body of a youth was recovered near Surya Public School on Ambala- Hissar national highway in Ambala City on Thursday. According to the police,the deceased was identified as Sonu,a resident of New Ratangarh Colony in Ambala City. A murder case against four youths namely Papu,Bunny,Neetu and Santu was registered under Section 302 and 34 of the IPC. The accused had allegedly used a screwdriver as the murder weapon.

Two die in separate road accidents
Ambala:
Two persons died and two were seriously injured in different road accidents in the last 24 hours in the district. Maniram,a resident of Nava Saha village under Chhapar in Yamunanagar,died after he was mowed down by a motorcycle driven by one Faqir Chand. He was taken to Chandigarh where he died. In another accident,Maya Devi,a resident of Rawalon,died after her scooter was hit by an unidentified vehicle near Ballana village on the Hisar road. A couple,Joginder Pal and wife Parkash Kaur,were injured seriously injured when a Bolero hit their motorcycle near Panjokhra village on Naraingarh road. The police have registered separate cases.

Vigilance Week kicks off
CHANDIGARH:
An essay-writing competition was held at the regional office of the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation on Tuesday to mark the first day of the Vigilance Week. Speaking on the occasion,S K Aggarwal,regional provident commissioner,said: “I motivate officers and staff members to provide services with dedication,sincerity and honesty.” The Vigilance Week is also being observed by the Sector-17 branch of State Bank of India. The staff members took an oath to conduct customer-oriented programmes as per notifications received from the Central Vigilance Commission. Executives at HMT Pinjore also took a collective pledge to strive for bringing about integrity and transparency in all spheres of their activities.

Autorickshaw driver stabbed for demanding fare
KHARAR:
An autorickshaw driver Nirmal Singh of Phase I,Mohali,was stabbed and left seriously injured after he demanded fare from a youth,who had hired his autorickshaw on Monday night,the police said on Tuesday. Singh was rushed to Civil Hospital,where he was admitted with 2-3 stab wounds.

Singh told the police that on his routine route from Mohali to Kharar,two youths boarded his vehicle and one of them alighted at Jhungian T-point while asking the other youth to pay his fare. The another youth alighted near local police station and gave single fare but when Singh demanded the other youth’s fare as well,the youth allegedly pulled out a dagger from his trouser and attacked him. On the identification of the injured autorickshaw driver,the local police have booked Kulwinder Singh of Kharar for voluntarily causing hurt and criminal intimidation under Sections 323,324 and 506 of the IPC.

Truckload of cows on way to slaughterhouse intercepted
KHARAR:
A truckload of cows on way to a slaughterhouse was intercepted on Kharar-Banur highway in Kharar but the driver and his 3-4 other accomplices managed to escape leaving behind the truck loaded with cows,the police said here on Tuesday. According to the police,Satish Kumar of the Gau Raksha Dal,Rajpura,had got a tip-off that Nishad and his accomplices were transporting cows for slaughtering from Punjab and when Kumar and his associates were chasing the truck loaded with cows,the driver and his accomplices got suspicious and left the truck in Kharar before fleeing the spot.

The police have booked Nishad and his unknown 3-4 accomplices under Sections 11 of the Cruelty to Animals Act,1960,and Sections 4-A,4-B and 8 of the Cow Slaughter Act,1955,before launching a manhunt to trace the accused.

Brahmakumaris to hold bureaucrats’ conclave in Mohali
MOHALI:
Prajapita Brahma Kumaris Ishwariya Vishwa Vidyalaya Mohali and Administrators Service Wing of Rajyoga Education and Research Foundation for the first time in Punjab will organise a two-day conference of administrators,managers and executives to instil values in them for a better administration in Mohali on November 5 and 6.

Giving the information on Tuesday,Brahma Kumar Amir Chand,national vice-chairman of Social Service Wing of Rajyoga Education and Research Foundation said over 400 administrators,managers and executives had confirmed their participation in the conference.
