20-year-old dies in road accident
A 20-year-old youth died in a road accident after the scooter he was riding was hit by a car here on Saturday night. The deceased Ram Kumar of Bibipur in Barhraich in UP,used to work at a shop in the Sector-26 grain market. He was rushed to PGI where he succumbed to injuries. A case has been registered under Sections 279,337 and 304 A of Indian Penal Code at the Sector-26 police station.
Pahadia still in hospital
Haryana Governor Jagannath Pahadia continues to be admitted at the PGI and his condition is reported to be stable. The doctors said the governor had no major complication but is admitted since Friday for routine investigations. He is admitted at the VIP room on the fourth floor of the Nehru Hospital.
UK fellowship for GMCH principal
The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow,U K,conferred the prestigious world acclaimed Fellowship of Royal College Surgeons (FRCS) on Prof Raj Bahadur,Director Principal,Government Medical College and Hospital,Sector 32,Chandigarh,for his outstanding contribution in the field of orthopaedics and spine in particular. The fellowship will be conferred on the premises of University of Glasgow,U K,on March 31,2010,by the President of Royal College of Surgeons.
Banks to remain open till midnight on Mar 31
The offices of the district treasury and sub treasuries at sub divisional level in the district will remain open till midnight on March 31 as directed by Deputy Commissioner S P Srow. He said the branches of State Bank of India at the twin cities of Ambala and Naraingarh would remain open while State Bank of Patiala and Punjab and Sindh Bank branches will function at Barara and Mullana. The DC directed to all heads of offices to submit bills of their departments by 10 pm to the treasuries so that these could be deposited with the banks for withdrawl of amounts before the end of financial year.
Special camp for hearing impaired held
Demonstrating the latest technique in hearing aids,the Ritu Chaudhary Hearing and Speech Clinic for Children held a special camp for parents and children suffering from severe to profound hearing loss. The latest advancement,called FM Systems,Dr Chaudhary said,brings the speech directly to the person wearing hearing aids and thus cuts down on the surrounding noise. Usually,hearing impaired people complain of external noises interfering with speech intelligibility. FM Systems help to bring speech directly to the person wearing hearing aids cutting down on the surrounding noise. This is especially useful for children in classrooms and for working people who have a hearing loss, said the doctor.
Mayor inaugurates park in Sector 45
Mayor Anu Chatrath inaugurated a green park in Sector 45-D in the presence of Vijay Singh Rana,area councillor and other councillors and officers of the Municipal Corporation on Sunday. The park has different types of shrubs,40 ornamental trees,flower beds,childrens play areas,huts,different type of hedges and benches. Chatrath lauded the efforts of Arun Kumar Kansal,executive engineer,Horticulture,and his team for developing the park. She said that community parking services will be provided soon in the sector along with Burail.
Chatrath calls on Union Law Minister
Mayor Anu Chatrath today apprised Minister for Law,Justice and Company Affairs Dr M Veerappa Moily about the non-implementation of the 74th Amendment in Chandigarh. Moily was in the city to attend the National Law Conference at Panjab University. The Mayor along with councillors Kamlesh and Pardeep Chhabra received him at the airport. Moily assured them that he will discuss the issue with Union Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal.
Dont merge municipal councils of Ambala city and cantonment
The Ambala Urban District Congress Committee vice-president and former Bar association president Subhash Jaiswal has opposed the formation of a corporation by merging municipal councils of Ambala city and Ambala cantonment. In a memorandum addressed to Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda and Union Tourism Minister Kumari Selja,he said the formation of a corporation was neither democratic nor viable and instead small municipal bodies were more beneficial for the public. He further said merging of over two dozen panchayats with the corporation area was not in public interest because the decision had been taken to increase the population to three crore ignoring the interests of the villages which would now lose their identity. No panchayat had passed resolution for their merger with corporation and had opposed its formation,he said.
Haryana to extend services of contractual teachers in govt schools
The Haryana government has decided to extend the service of contractual teachers working in government schools in the state. Disclosing this,State Education Minister Geeta Bhukal said the services of the contract teachers would be dispensed with after regular teachers were appointed by the government. This,she said,had been done keeping in mind the decision of the Punjab and Haryana High Court. The guest teachers,who had been in the employment for the last several years,have been agitating for regularising their services. ENS
Sahoonja elected Chandigarh Beopar Mandal chief
Diwakar Sahoonja won the elections to the post of president of the Chandigarh Beopar Mandal by a margin of 80 votes. Sahoonja defeated Jagdish Arora by 80 votes. Four traders did not cast their vote and six had been barred from voting by a court order. The run-up to the election had witnessed a split among the traders with a few members filing a case in court to ensure that the former president Charanjeev Singh does not contest the election again.
Sahoonja said that it would be his endeavour to work taking everyone along. I would ensure that all traders work as one. There would be no groupism in CBM. It would be a non-political organization working for the benefit of traders, he said.
International faculty to provide training to city teachers

Yoga camp concludes at Panchkula
The Bhartiya Yog Sansthan organised a-five day free camp on obesity which concluded at Sector 14,Panchkula,today. The camp was a part of a series of such camps being organised by BYS at different cities. A large number of people attended the camp and several asanas like paschimotan,sarap,dhanur,kamar chakkar were practised. Shudhi kriyayane: kunjal,rubber neti,suttar neti for not only removal of antibodies from the body but to have a faster progress in spiritual sadhana,were also demonstrated at the camp.
